An Action Star Is Born? Not Just Yet in ‘Prince’

LOS ANGELES — In the opening scenes of “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,” a wise man cautions the title character, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, not to take on too much. The warning: “You’re just not ready for this.”

The words proved an omen for Mr. Gyllenhaal in real life over the weekend, as an effort to recast him as an action hero — a star capable of anchoring a big summer movie — ended in disappointment. “Prince of Persia” sold an estimated $37.8 million in tickets in North American theaters over the holiday weekend, a weak performance for a film that cost about $200 million to make and carried global marketing costs of more than $100 million.

“Prince of Persia,” from the producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Walt Disney Studios, entered the market in second place. DreamWorks Animation’s “Shrek Forever After” was No. 1 in its second week, with a strong $55.7 million, an indication that positive word of mouth has followed the film’s so-so box office start. Premium-priced 3-D tickets also helped. Total domestic sales for “Shrek Forever After” now stand at $145.5 million.

The other new release of note, “Sex and the City 2,” was third, with about $37.1 million, according to Hollywood.com, which compiles box office statistics. Warner Brothers released this R-rated sequel, which cost about $100 million to make, on Thursday to grab any fans who planned to travel over the holiday. Adding in Thursday sales, “Sex and the City 2” sold a total of $51.4 million.

Last time I heard its title (and played it) was when I was a kid. It was also a game back then but was a 2G and was presented in black and white. At present this game shows a new play and image and everything to all gamers—a great RPG (role playing game) that is centered in the battle of good and evil as darkness escapes from the tree of life. Yes, good versus evil at it again.
Besides from the cool story that is soon to be a movie, matter of fact, comes the cool graphics that I must admit does exceed those of past RPGs I played before (bravo to the digital crew). It reminds me of epic tales indeed and real life battle. The fine line depicted on the drawing made it look like characters coming out of the book in 3G format.
I just saw the introduction and honestly fell for it. There is something about the action and how all of it was done that somehow opens up curiosity; and honestly it has for me that I immediately went on searching for the storyline. I even try to find a person (and I did found one) that agreed just with the sight of the trailer.
Ubisoft will be launching Prince of Persia: the Forgotten Sands. Public records search shows that this is actually part of the Trilogy starting from Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, which will hit the big screens coming 2010. The story (told you it makes a person curious—researched it), starting from the first part, is about the Prince, after he and his father had conquered India, was tricked by the Majarajah’s vizier to unleash the power of the Sands of time which turned everyone in their kingdom into demons; this is with the exception of the prince, the vizier and princess Lara (the Majarajah’s daughter) because of their possessions (dagger of time for the prince, the medallion for the princess and the staff for the vizier). To save his kingdom, the prince travelled with Princess Lara in order to reverse the effect with the use of the prince’s dagger.
Background check companies reveal that The Prince of Persia had been done in many story lines. The Sands of Time was the first by Ubisoft releasing it year 2003. By next year another adventure comes with the third installment. This is one sure pack game for all players to enjoy (especially those who have loved and supported Prince of Persia).
