A Tribute to some of the best entertainer who died in 2009

Hollywood will never be the same with the death of some of their best performers. There were great lost; some were relieved from their idols suffering but mostly has shocked the world. They were epitome of great talent and will always be remembered. Here’s a background check that shows why they are the icons of the entertainment industry.


Patrick Swayze
Swayze’s first professional appearance was as a dancer for Disney on Parade followed by a Broadway production of Grease. He was later on casted as in his first debut film role as Ace in Skatetown (1979). He also appeared in the episode of Blood Brothers. However, his real major breakthrough as an actor came with the hit movie Dirty Dancing.
Dirty Dancing (1987) showcased Swayze’s earlier ballet experience as he played a role of a dance instructor. Public records search shows the film was originally a low budget and was to be shown for only a week, however as it hit the theaters it surprisingly went for a massive international success. In 2007 it has earned over $300 Million worldwide and has gone from television shows to stage production to video games.
Ghost (1990) was his biggest international success where he starred with Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. His role gave such an impact that it became one of the timeless and best films the entertainment industry has known.
In January 2009, Swayze was diagnosed of pancreatic cancer. Even with an illness he remained active in front of the cameras and became the lead in the A&E TV series The Beast which premiered January 15, 2009. After more than year of Suffering from the said illness, he passed away on September 14, 2009.


Natasha Richardson
Natasha Richardson was born in the Redgrave family. She was the daughter of actress Vanessa Redgrave and director/producer Tony Richardson. Her first film break came as she portrayed Mary Shelley in Ken Russell’s Gothic (1986). She later on caught the attention of director Paul Shrader that led her to play the lead role in Patty Hearst (1988).
Being a great actress earned her notable awards such as the Theater World Award for her Broadway debut in the 1993 revival of Anna Christie. She also got a Tony for Best Leading Actress in a Musical, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical, the Outer Critics Circle Award as she played Sally Bowles in the 1998 Broadway revival of Caberet.
Miss Richardson’s best character performance can be well noted in films like the Parent Trap (1998) and Maid in Manhattan (2002).
One of the highlights of her career was more on her fight against AIDS through the charity amfAR (American Foundation for AIDS Research). This act was all for her father who died of AIDS-related cause in 1991.
Miss Richardson died on March 18, 2009 after receiving a head injury from a skiing accident while taking lessons in Mont Tremblant Resort in Quebec. The Broadway and London’s West End dimmed their light on March 19, 2009 as a mark of respect for the celebrated actress.


Michael Jackson
His death is something that can find a person in total shock and sadness...
Michael Jackson was the ultimate entertainer the world has ever known. Referred to as the King of Pop he is one of the most successful and influential entertainer of all time. He started his music career with his brothers in his debut in 1964. He was then the youngest member of The Jackson 5. It was in 1971 that he started with his solo career.
His contribution to music, dance and fashion earned made him a prominent figure in pop culture lasting for four decades. His albums remained as the best selling albums of all time starting off with Thriller in 1982; this was with his other albums Bad (1997), Dangerous (1991),and HIStory (1995).
Jackson is one of the few artists that has inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. Records search shows how his achievements are also noted in the Guinness World Records as he got many awards from highly acknowledged Music Awards including the 15th Grammy’s where he also got the Most Successful Entertainer of All Time. However these celebrated achievements are not as attention grabber unlike the controversies that revolve around his life starting with his features down to his children.
While preparing for the concert tour This is It, Jackson died of cardiac arrest, June 24, 2009. This death was ruled as Homicide by the Los Angeles County Coroner. His death brought about tears from fans from all over the globe.


Farrah Fawcett
She was the icon of the seventies. In the seventies it was impossible not to search for people and find one who was hooked by this angel’s smile, her sexy body and her do.
Farrah Fawcett first appeared on TV commercials during the late 1960s. She also had a guest appearance on the hit series I Dream of Jeannie. This was followed by guest appearances in Owen Marshall: Counselor at Law. She later on appeared in the Six Million dollar Man with Lee Majors. However what really earned her attention was her poster where she was wearing a red bathing.
It was her role as an agent named Jill Munroe that earned her total recognition in television. This was when Charlie’s Angels was movie of the week. It starred her with Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith, where the three of them are angels or private investigators for Townsend Associates, the detective agency run by a multi-millionaire whom they girls just know through voice (someone whom they are not even allowed to locate even through a phone number reverse).
Miss Fawcett’s career went more soaring as she became a sex symbol with her hair. It has launched a sensation among women as it became a trend. It was called a “Farrah Do”.
Fawcett was diagnosed with anal cancer in 2006 and immediately began treatment. It was four months later, on her 60th birthday that she was said to be cancer free. However less than four months after, she was told that a malignant polyp was found in the area that was initially treated. It was that doctor’s visit that was first caught in cam by Farrah and her friend Alana Stewart.
The whole battle through cancer was caught on cam, documented by Farrah. She died approximately 9:28 am on June 25, 2009 in the intensive care unit of Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California. The night after she died ABC aired an hour long special as tribute to Farrah. On June 26, her documented battle was shown in television—Farrah’s Story.

They were icons in the entertainment industry: cherished and loved by their fans. Some of the noted artists that died this year are Bea Arthur, David Carradine and recently Brittany Murphy. They and the rest of the entertainment industry will surely miss them.
